Campus Location
The College of
Maasin is located at Tunga-Tunga, Maasin City, province of
Southern Leyte-wide system of higher education and lower level
laboratory schools.
History
The College of
Maasin is a non-sectarian institution founded by the Rev. Dr.
Angel C. Espina. In 1973, the school was donated to the United
Church of Christ in the Philippines. It was accepted by the
UCCP General Assembly in 1974 making it part of the UUCP
church-related educational institutions network in the
country. Since then, the college continued its journey towards
academic rehabilitation, recovery and the quest for quality
education. It has produced distinctive men and women who have
become pillars of the society like former Speaker of the
Batasang Pambansa, the late, Nicanor Espina Yniguez Presently,
the College of Maasin is moving onwards to progress with God’s
blessing. In 2004, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and
Bachelor of Laws were added as new courses. Other courses
offered are Food Technology, Computer Science, Commerce and
Liberal Arts, Midwifery, BSIT or Bachelor of Science in
Information Technology also has a complete elementary
and high school. The College of Maasin envisions itself as a
dynamic learning institution committing its life resources and
ministry towards personal renewal – nurtured in faith –
through a liberating process of learning and holistic actions
necessary for the transformation of society.
Motto
The University of the Visayas
has been guided by the motto envisioned by the Founder which
is now inscribed in the University seal: “Amor, Servitium,
Humanitas” (Love and Service to Humanity). At the onset of the
Third Millennium, the incumbent UV President, Atty. Eduardo R.
Gullas, added a new core value to the motto which now reads:
“Love, Leadership and Service to
Humanity.”
Vision The
University of the Visayas is a center of excellence inspired
by an abiding faith in the Almighty God, love, leadership and
service to humanity.
Mission
With
its commitment to the ideals of love and service, and the
development of new breed of leaders who are morally upright
and spiritually inspired, the University of the Visayas
operates and maintains educational programs which are
nationalistic and democratic, and attuned to nationally and
internationally accepted standards. While it nurtures academic
excellence, it also works for the enhancement of high level
professions and middle-level careers relevant to community
development and the socio-economic needs of the
country.
Colors and
Seal The
College of Maasin colors are green and white. The corporate
seal of the University is circular in shape with the following

Pioneering Programs
• First to
offer Study Now Pay Later to poor but
deserving students
• First to
grant Scholarship Programs to ordinary government
employees, public school teachers & administrators, military
personnel & poor disabled students.
• First to
institutionalize Community Organizing Participative Action
Research (COPAR) for Community Extension Program.
• First to
establish academic-based Public Employment Office
(PESO) for placement & job training of UV graduates at
its satellite schools.
• First to
establish International linkages with Stitching
Zorginstellenger Rinjswijk Nursing Homes in Netherlands for
exchange training programs & employment of Nursing alumni and
Nursing Resources in the San Francisco Bay, USA, for scholarship and
sponsorship of top 10% of Nursing Graduates every year for
employment and immigration in the area. |
